Wednesday Style Points: Learning & Teaching About Interior Design & Decorating

I have never been accused of being quiet

Well sometimes I have…

But not about Design & Decorating

Today we are sharing the day with our Video Guys & some very special attendees at our Seminar: My Catalog Life

West Elm…we take these resources and really break it down so you aren’t overwhelmed and know where to start…you have a plan…

It’s about making a home space from retail product – in practical but custom terms! It’s about creating your couture chateau’s from those stacks and stacks of catalogs & miles of inbox “unreads”!

This Seminar was born out of a talk I wrote…is that how you say it?…called “Help! I’m a Home Goods Addict” which was for a few good friends 😉

Are we ashamed to say we go here from time to time??….!

ARGHHHH!!! they said (in a good way)….so…the talk morphed into this Seminar!

Here is the link to the Pinterest Board we created for this Seminar

Pottery Barn via Apartment Therapy (picture linked)

It is now practical, always (!) and includes checks & balances to make sure you are making a space your own and not a “Catalog Ad”

I’d love to expand this topic – but for now it’s a single day and we will do our best to get some video edits done by November so our remote Couture Chateau Friends can download one of the segments for free! There will be 5 segments – possibly 6 if we run on!!

Seminar is sold out – we only had room for 8, but will be videoing so we can edit for practical downloads

Sneak Peek of nuggets:

Easy Ways to Coordinate Compatible Retail Product

1. Catalog Scale – who has furniture frames that work together (?!)

2. Catalog Colors – who partners with which paint suppliers for their finishes (?!)

3. Catalog Fabrics – where do those fabrics really come from and how can I coordinate if I want to buy from another company (?!) and why do I see the same fabrics in a lot of the catalogs? Is it actually the same or printed differently

Tuesday Tidbit: My Covered Button Habit

Tuesday Tidbit: Custom Decorating, My Covered Button Habit

I love couture details

These are gorgeous! From “Thingshelenlikes”

Hand fabricated covered buttons make everything better…

Spectacular. Image Credit Tony Hamaway. Linked to site onewed.

From a wedding dress

To a piece of custom upholstery

To the corner of a custom Couture Chateau Coverlet

Linen Backed with Covered Buttons

If it’s standing still….beware…I will find a place for a covered button

Back side of one of our Reupholstered Vintage Settee’s….gorgeous! And notice the covered buttons…

One of my favorite places for covered buttons is on our lined & interlined pillows….no zipper in sight…just a gorgeous placket with covered button closure!

Covered Buttons & a peek at our custom Couture Chateau lining on those private label pillows…

Where can you add a covered button or two?!

Even on the reverse of one of our Antique Textile Pillows…this Designer Washed Linen makes a fabulous backdrop to the simple covered button detail. And no worries…our workrooms take great pride in sewing and attaching those buttons to stand the “husband test”! No falling off buttons here!

These are specatacular. Can you imagine them on the side of a fabulous contemporary sofa? Just this single detail?! Wow.

Think outside the box…where could you add couture details to something you are designing or having made for your home? Customize it just a bit…gotta start somewhere! You are worth it!

Have a great Tuesday!

Monday Matters: How to Custom Decorate my home when all I can afford is from a Catalog?

Monday Matters: How to Custom Decorate my home when all I can afford is from a Catalog?

Seminar is SOLD OUT but we will VIDEO it for an affordable download option broken into 5 Segments! So excited!!

We believe you are Custom

We believe making a Custom Space makes us live more intentional lives

A simple customization from Retail product…we took a planter from Home Goods that was table height and used it as a table base instead! The Lantern is from OSH Hardware, the Rope as well…we teach you how to combine with an eye towards the upper end but your wallet grounded in reality!

How do you bring Custom into your home when all you have access to or can afford is from a Catalog?

We know from this month’s House Beautiful that Hermes Orange and Tiffany Blue are all the rage, but how do we incorporate that when we cannot or choose not to spend $$$$ on Custom Decorating? In this Seminar we FOCUS and EDIT from the get go. We start by establishing a Color Palate for YOU. A Custom Color Palate for a singular space that will be your jumping off point. We “eat the elephant” one bite at a time!! And while we eat…we are constantly bringing it back to YOUR custom space.

This week we are hosting a Seminar called “My Catalog Life: How to Create a Custom Home from Retail”

Our Seminar is Sold Out – we only allow 8 people at a time so that all of our participants get hands on training & one on one followup

BEFORE

HOWEVER

AFTER. This is a micro example of using Retail but customizing the space and thinking outside the box but INSIDE of reality and practicality. Everything functions, everything translates into another room, but it is custom for you and your lifestyle. This “mini project” we did as a bite size nugget for our actual Seminar which will focus on one of your “meal size” rooms-spaces, examples include: Family Room, Master, Guest Room, Living Room, Play Room.

we are videoing it so we can SHARE it with those of you who’d like to participate on a more Budget Friendly Platform! It should be ready to purchase and download within a few weeks. We will edit it into the 5 Segments we are doing at the Seminar.

First:  How to Establish a Color Palate that is Custom but Realistic, Affordable & Achievable

We run you through simple tips to establish your Custom Color Palate for your Home that is consistent with some of the major Furniture Catalogs out there. We pull from places like Pottery Barn, Crate & Barrel, CB2, West Elm, Grandinrod

!

We are SO excited about this Seminar. Can hardly wait!

If you aren’t already, please make sure to opt in on our Blog so you will receive updates as to when the download will be available.

Have a great week!
